Splash Canyon, Morning, Victoria, Australia

The photograph shown here is the only one I captured at this location. The light
was gorgeous when I arrived but a large area dark clouds was moving in quickly
behind me. Due to somewhat percarious footing I couldn't find a composition and
set up my equipment as quickly as I'd have liked. Once ready I didn't need to
wait long for a splash. I tripped the camera's shutter hoping to capture the
right moment and the light immediately began to fade. Whatever I got would be
the only, and by definition the best, image I would get that day.
The narrow and fairly deep canyon extends out into the ocean. Even on a calm
day it channels a significnt amount of wave energy to the shore. There a
series of natural steps in the rock combine with a narrowing of the canyon
to create an explosion of water. This feature is more spectacular on windy
days when the ocean is rough, but it would be quite dangerous to stand this
close on such a day and the salt water would destroy my camera.
