This photograph was taken before sunset on a bitter cold and fiercly windy evening in eastern Victoria's high country. It looks like two different photographs spliced together but there is no trickery involved. As I stood watching, the mostly clear sky developed a dark and stormy looking layer. A fairly large cloud came riding quickly, from right to left. upon it. I hurried to find a vantage point before the darker layer blocked light from the landscape.
By the time I captured this photograph the peak on the upper left was already in shadow. The shadow progressed with surprising speed. This was the second of several photographs I captured within perhaps 30 seconds. It is the only one with the cloud nicely positioned that also has some direct sunlight shining on the foreground rocks.
