Tetons and Snake River, Autumn, Wyoming
The 9 million year old the Teton range is one of the youngest
mountain ranges in North America but rocks on its eastern face
are among the oldest, having formed 2.5 billion years ago. The
mountains soar above the Snake River as it winds through the
rocky flats to their east. In this photograph the sun shines
through gaps between clouds illuminating water and other
particulate matter in the air showing the shafts of light, or sunbeams, against
darker areas of the background.
