Orange Spring Mound and Trees

Orange Spring Mound is the result of mineral deposition from a slow flow of mineral laden water at a temperature of about 157°F (69°C). This temperature is cool enough to allow the growth of orange cyanobacteria which streak the large travertine mound. As the mound slowly grows it entombs everything it comes in contact with, like the trees in this image.
